Task 9- Statement of intent
FULL STATEMENT OF INTENT-
Leyton sixth form college
Candace Russell
Magazines and Online website- The task of producing the
front cover and one contents page for each of the first two editions of a new
fashion magazine that is being launched by Bauer and the website for the fashion
magazine.
How do you intend to
use the four areas of the media theoretical framework to communicate meaning
and meet the requirements of your chosen brief?
(approx. 400 words)
For my magazine 'Nubian' the front page along with the
contents page will use media language to
target an audience of 16-25 year olds women of colour, of a AB demographic. The
magazine follows typical form, codes and conventions to make meaning. This is
executed by following all features of a traditional typical fashion magazine. A
few examples of this is the masthead which reads 'Nubian', there are cover
lines involved for example '7 Easy ways to style yourself this Summer' and
'Exclusive how to be the best version of you. Honey Dyer tells her story'.
There is also direct address with the audience through the models eye contact
on the main page. The font used on the title is serif typography. There is also
a three colour scheme, these colours are mustard-yellow white and grey, There
are also main cover lines stating for example 'Exclusive how to be the best
version of you. Honey Dyer tells her story'.
The media industry that will produce and publish my magazine
'Nubian' will be Bauer and it will be circulated by local shops, supermarkets
and newsagents.
The representations of the Nubian magazine is Ethnicity and
Femininity. Women/girls of color especially black women are often portrayed as
being 'masculine' and 'resilient', within the media and especially western
society, this has very negative effects on women of colour in which they
believe that they should change how they are naturally just to fit into western
views on what makes a woman a woman. Within my magazine 'Nubian', women/girls
of colour are represented, this is evident through the models used, there are
women/girls that are black, mixed race and indian, using a variety of women
from different ethnicities

Product 2
My working website digitally converges with my magazine. To
co-exist with my magazine I will therefore make my working website identical to
the magazine in which it uses the same colour scheme, these colours are yellow,
grey and white. Within my website I will ensure that it follows media language,
codes and conventions of a website to make meaning. An example of this is that
there will be a Masthead reading 'Nubian' which is the same colour as within
the magazine- it is a mustardy yellow colour, on the left hand side of each
page that the website consists of. My website will include a menu bar that will
include links to pages for lifestyle, beauty and entertainment- all of which
will cater to the audience I am targeting. There is also a homepage which
appears if you type the URL to my website
The representations are femininity and ethnicity- The
website has representations of individuals and groups. Women/girls of colour
are being represented, this is shown through the models used. The masthead '
Nubian' is a poetic way of referring to people of colour, this appeals to women
of colour.
The magazine targets audience through appealing them through
entertainment such as Naomi Campbell dishes out 5 ways to be super-confident.
Naomi- Campbell is a world famous black British Jamaican model that represents,
strength, beauty, class and femininity. She is a role model to a lot of
women/girls of colour.
How do you intend to
link your media products to demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of
the digitally convergent nature of your media
production? (approx. 100 words)
I will link my media products, by using the same three
colour scheme for both the magazine and website to create a distinctive brand
for Nubian that will be recognised. My website and magazine will therefore work
together to advertise the company, this will be done by having digital versions
of the magazine on the website in which it will have the same/similar topics
which will be discussed in both. The magazine and website will include the same
media language and media representations to create the same messages. Both of
the media products will therefore support one another to bring across the same
messages and meanings, whilst making the company Nubian more popular/known.
