Meghan Markle 2 newspapers analysis

Image
Representation of gender: Within the newspaper 'The Sun', the representation of gender is a rather stereotypical one which is seen through images of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry. Meghan Markle is seen wearing a tight revealing dress that is exposing her cleavage, the dress and lipstick is red which may represent lust and sex. This links into Van Zoonen study on objectification in which women are usually seen and represented as objects . This is evident especially through media. Which leads onto the direct eye contact and bright smile that Meghan Markle is giving, which could be a case of the male gaze, in which she looks friendly and inviting and a person that men could look and lust over her. The images of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry contrast one another as Prince Harry is seen looking away in which he is not seen as inviting and wearing modest clothing in which he is not objectified as and object for people to look at and lust after, but a figure to be resp...

The daily mail- 'Smirking at soft justice britain'

Image
This newspaper article is by "The Daily Mail" newspaper as read by the masthead. The main is of a young black man wearing a suit and seen to be smirking at his phone.  The headline reads"Smirking at soft justice britain" which is anchored by the image creating the assumption that this young man is not only laughing and  at being let off for the numerous crimes he has committed but also mocking the british legal system. However it could be said that the young man may not be smiling but squinting as the sun is shown to be in his eyes, therefore the headline may be misleading. The image itself could link to Edward Said's definition of 'otherness' in which this young black man could be a representation of all black people in which they are typically presented as thugs and deviants within society. The standfirst 'A suspected drug dealer with a history of carrying a blade dodged jail today', the verb dodged could be the idea that he was indeed guilt...

Burn the witch essay

How are media language and intertextuality used in “Burn the Witch” to construct representations of groups, messages and values? In 'Burn The Witch' media language and intertextuality is used to create a message about the Refugee crisis 2016. Burn the Witch is a song created by the famous Radiohead's' in which through media language and intertextuality a story and serious political issue is presented. This is executed mise en scene. An example of this is the stop motion animation that is inspired by The Trumptonshire trilogy 1966-1969 - a children's show which was intended in teaching children about community values, which is ironic when being used in Radiohead's' Burn The Witch as this music videos message is about the Refugee crisis, and discrimination. This could bring about the message that people within the European Union are not being courteous to what the people they see as others in their communities and this is not how they should be conduct...
